Safe Medicine Disposal

When medicine is no longer needed, it is important to dispose of expired, unwanted, or unused medicines from your home as quickly as possible to help reduce the chance that others may accidentally take or intentionally misuse the unneeded medicine.

Be The Change Partner
Medicine Take Back Project

Be The Change hosts two annual medicine take-back community events, each fall and spring. In addition to these annual events, Barry County also has 5 permanent medicine disposal sites for collecting ALL medications. For non-controlled medication, Barry County offers local pharmacy partners that provide proper disposal. Disposing of your medicines at one of these locations or during one of these events will ensure that your medicines will not be stolen from the garbage, will not enter the environment, and will eliminate the potential for misuse and overdose at home.

National DEA Take Back

Together, Be The Change and the Hastings City Police host two annual DEA Drug Take Back days each year at Walgreens in downtown Hastings. Individuals can drive through the Walgreen's parking lot on National DEA Take Back Day and drop off their expired or unused medication.

Too often, unused prescription drugs find their way into the wrong hands. That's dangerous and often tragic. That's why it was great to see thousands of folks from across Barry County clean out their medicine cabinets and turn in - safely and anonymously - a record amount of prescription drugs each year.
